When should life end?

Today, I was talking to an acquaintance who’s been waiting for her mother to die for two weeks.

Surprisingly, after a stroke and brain aneurism, she isn’t dead yet. As a matter of fact, with the help of modern medicine, she’s hanging on.

However, her hanging on is not the best quality of life. She can’t talk, and barely knows what’s going on. But, she is conscious.

This is my question: What if there is nothing after we die? What if everything just stops?

Is a barely human life better than no life at all? Has modern medicine gone too far?
