I Never Thought I’d Live to See this day: Donald Trump

Electors do the right thing.

Electors do the right thing.

I was a child of the 60’s. I vaguely remember President Dwight Eisenhower talking to the nation on TV. I watched the Vietnam War on the evening news for years and years. I grieved the assassinations of both Kennedy brothers. I never thought I’d live to see this day.

I remember Martin Luther King, alive and later dead. I watched in dismay as people demonstrated in this country, peacefully and violently. I never thought I’d live to see this day.

Most of all, I remember Richard Nixon, forcing to resign from office because of covering up a robbery at the Watergate, I never thought I’d live to see this day.

But Watergate is nothing compared with the corruption, lies, and deceit of this man taking office. He has not one redeeming quality. Not one ounce of goodness. The only emotion he seems to express is revenge.

I also watched with real hope when Barack Obama was elected for the first time.

I thought, our country has overcome prejudice. Now, things will change for the better. I never thought I’d live to see this day.

At first I laughed when I watched Fox news and heard Rush Limbaugh on the radio. I thought, nobody can take these people seriously. I never thought I’d live to see this day.

I dubiously watched Donald Trump on TV. I cringed when he imitated a person with disabilities, I found his rallies reminiscent of films I’d seen of Adolph Hitler. (Having distant relatives who perished in the Holocaust, I’ve read diaries and stories from that time. I’ve listened to people who were living witnesses to that time. He also had victory rallies.)

There are too many similarities. People thought Hitler was a silly fool who couldn’t possibly last. He suppressed the press, and targeted groups of people: Jews, Gypsies, Homosexuals, mentally and physically disabled, and those brave enough to resist him. They never thought they’d  live to see that day.

Too many perished because they were bystanders.

Why do people like this man? He preys on people’s fears. They are afraid that “Isis” is coming to their shores, and they think this narcissistic dictator is going to keep them out. They think they will get rich like him. And who really knows how rich he is? No tax return, and he can’t discern between the truth and a lie.

People think him promoting “Merry Christmas” instead of “Happy Holiday shows he’s a good Christian. This man stands for the total opposite of any religion.

Now, I understand how evil people get in power. They masquerade as something they’re not, and work on people’s fears. They suppress the free press. They promise revenge on anyone who opposes them. They tell people they lied to them and they laugh at them. Those followers are so confused they still don’t acknowledge his shallow soul.

Most of all they tell lies, and after a while the lies start to make sense. Say 2+2=5 long enough and people will start to believe you. Read “1984” by George Orwell. It’s all there.

If somehow, any elector read this post, do the right thing.

Why are our 21st Century Heroes so narcissistic? The Tipping Point for me: Lance Armstrong

In the old days that I remember, our heroes were strong, humble, and caring for others.  They did not make speeches about how great they were. This might explain why so many of us admire Barack Obama. The President

typifies old-fashioned behavior. He isn’t big on name calling, boastfulness, and he  loves his family. He’s not afraid to tell us that either. He also manages to appeal to our human positive side too.

In contrast to him, we have a lot of boastful narcissists continually taking the spotlight. It’s good to have a good self-image, but do you have to tell everyone else about it? Can you get outside yourself for five minutes?

Then we have members of Congress, who do nothing but argue and name call, and put themselves first. No wonder we’re all so discouraged.  If you ask me, they all need a good talking to about really caring about other people. What happened to respecting the office of President of the United States? People used to do that.

Media Narcissists

The latest media boastful heroes have been Arnold Schwarzenegger, Donald Trump, and now Lance Armstrong.

Donald Trump is the example of the professional “I am great person.” I think people are finally sick and tired of him. He is nothing but a bully. He does prove the maxim if you tell people how great you are, they will believe you.

I watched “The Apprentice.” At first I thought he was nicer than people thought. But, as time went on, I realized first impressions can sometimes be correct.  He operates by telling  people how great he is, makes them call him “Mr. Trump,” and basically sets himself up as a king.

He rewards the people who are the most competitive and cut throat like him. He fought with comedienne Rosie O’Donnell by calling her names.  He challenged the President of the United States  to supply him with proof of his birth. He said “if he does this, I will contribute to the charity of his choice.” Really?

Then we  have good old Arnold Schwarzenegger walking all over Maria Shriver by fooling around right under her nose. He’s another one who managed to convince us to see his movies and elect him Governor.  Why? Because he told us he’s great and people believed him. He is trying to come back. I don’t think he’s going to make it. I think he went too far.

Now, we have Lance Armstrong. A person we thought was admirable turns out to be a pathological liar and a  bully. During his Oprah interviews he proved that he has little insight on his poor behavior and how he hurt other people. I wouldn’t be the least surprised if he comes back like other people displaying poor behavior.  Personally, I’ve had enough of him.

Yes, I’m talking about Bill Clinton. A lot of people forget he was impeached for his bad behavior.   I wonder what happened to the girl he victimized. But everyone forgave him, and he’s more popular than ever.

Maybe one day, the tide will turn. Maybe one day we’ll get back to politeness, good behavior, and acting civilized.

10 Things You Should Not Do

1. Making fun or insulting others to get a laugh. (Don Rickles, Joan Rivers, Kathy Griffin, Bill Mahr,  Steven Colbert and most comedians. We laugh with them at people.)

At first, I included Jon Stewart, but after thinking it over I decided his humor is not mean-spirited. I like the way he gets his point across. He reminds me of an intellectual Johnny Carson.

Some people carry this  line of comedy into real life towards real people. Insulting other is not nice or funny.

2. Believing that you are superior to everyone. (Donald Trump, Carl Rove, Rush Limbaugh, etc.)

3. Not listening to anyone else.( Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity.)

4. Talking only about yourself. (Donald Trump)

5. Being rude to hard-working people in stores and restaurants. There’s plenty of ordinary people who do that. It’s really pathetic behavior, and if you do it, stop it immediately!

6. Driving drunk or drugged up. (Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton)

7. Saying things that you know will embarrass others.(Donald Trump, Joan Rivers)

8. Calling people childish names, like pig.  (Donald Trump). Name calling in general is a no no.

9. Looking at the bad side of life. Fox channel, CNN Channel, Local News,  Reality Shows, The Khardashians, Dr. Drew, Dr. Phil, Prison reality type shows, Serial Killer Documentaries, television in general)

10. Being a home wrecker, and speaking ill of the dead. (Rielle Hunter)

As I was writing this, I wondered why those people are famous? What’s even sadder is that they are rich too. Some of them, like Mr. Trump, have stars embedded in cement.

I am interested enough  to read all the gossip magazines, watch reality shows and mention these people.

I do not like it when I am the target of humor that is directed at me. Especially humor that makes fun of my weaknesses. (I have plenty.)

Maybe we need some better role models. When did things change? Where should we draw the line? Which of these people offend, and which don’t. Do you agree or disagree with me?

The fact is that we like controversial people. Go figure?
